James

Hi, I'm James Howey. I'm originally from Waimate in South Canterbury, I have extensive clinical experience over a period of twenty- five years within a variety of counselling and educational institutions in both Australia and in New Zealand.

I currently work as a clinical counsellor across several schools in Dunedin, as well as a small private practice. I have specialised in loss and grief, and in trauma informed counselling work across several settings.
The experience of ‘loss and grief’ is a deeply personal journey that affects us all in different ways and sometimes in ways we would never have expected. Having a safe place to tell our story in an environment that is respectful can help us to slowly begin to accept our new way of being, and gain an understanding and insight into the way we feel.
I understand and honour that each person’s story is unique and that we are all affected by grief in different ways. I also understand the importance of working respectfully within each person’s culture and belief system.
I currently live in Dunedin where I am able to offer face to face counselling. I am also able to offer online counselling via zoom throughout the country. I am very flexible and am happy to accommodate individual appointment times including evenings and weekends.
